Oesophageal lengthening by traction in oesophageal atresia: the uk experience

Management of long gap oesophageal atresia (LGOA) remains a major challenge for paediatric surgeons worldwide. There are many ways to define LGOA, however, the term usually denotes cases when a surgically-satisfactory primary anastomosis of the proximal and distal pouches of the oesophagus is not possible [1]. Oesophageal replacement (by gastric pull-up, tubularised gastric conduit or intestinal interposition) was the only means of achieving enteral continuity until the introduction of traction techniques.
