Prevalence of orthorexia nervosa in a group of ungraduates: dieting and physical activity role

Introduction: Orthorexia nervosa (ON) is defined as the excessive fixation on healthy eating, especially focused on food quality rather than food quantity. It can either be associated to dietary restriction or not. Different possible risk factors for ON onset have been investigated, including gender, BMI, dieting and physical activity. ON prevalence in Italy is about 6.9% among the general population, while it can be extremely variable (1-76.6%) in ungraduates. Nutrition and sport sciences students appear to have an increased risk of ON.
