Propensity score matched analysis for the role of surgery in stage III small cell lung cancer based on the eighth edition of the TNM classification: a population study of the US SEER database and a Chinese hospital
Lung cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of cancer death worldwide [1]. In China, lung cancer has replaced liver cancer as the first cause of death among all the malignant tumors [2]. Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) accounts for 13% of all newly diagnosed lung cancer cases and commonly has a poor prognosis [3]. In addition to tobacco smoking, which is the primary risk factor to lung cancer, other risks including radon gas, exposure to asbestos, radiation and environmental pollution cannot be ignored [4].
