The Impact of Thromboelastography on Decreasing Blood Product Usage in Liver Transplantation

Thromboelastography (TEG) has emerged as a tool to guide resuscitation in Liver Transplantation (LT). We aim to identify effects of TEG utilization on product use and blood loss in LT.

This study is aimed at exploring the prognostic significance of serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels and gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT)/alanine aminotransferase (ALT) ratio in hepatocellular carcinoma after liver transplant (LT).METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed data from 155 patients with a pathologically confirmed diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma who received LT between January 2013 and September 2017. We used receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curves to determine the optimal LDH and GGT/ALT ratio cut-off values. The Kaplan-Meier method and the logarithmic rank test were used to compare the survival c...

CONCLUSION: CD8+CD45RClowT cells interact with pDCs through the induction of IL-10 and TGF-β expression and are responsible for inducing immune tolerance in rat liver transplantation.PMID:34843936 | DOI:10.1016/j.trim.2021.101508

We examined four pediatric patients who presented with liver failure and splenomegaly. Two patients with liver cirrhosis without cholestasis underwent liver transplantation (LT). The other two patients presented with giant cell hepatitis causing neonatal/infantile acute liver failure (ALF). The infantile ALF patient also underwent LT. Liver dysfunction developed after LT in all three transplant cases and the grafts exhibited massive sinusoidal infiltration of histiocytes with hemophagocytosis, similar to the native liver. The neonatal ALF patient was treated with an LCH-type chemotherapy regimen, and is alive and well at 1...

This study aimed to investigate the potential effect of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) in a murine model of experimental AIH (EAH), a condition more similar to that of AIH patients. Changes in the enteric microbiome were determined in AIH patients and EAH mice. Moreover, we established an experimental model of secondary EAH mice harboring dysbiosis (ABx) to analyze the effects of therapeutic FMT administration on follicular regulatory T (TFR) and helper T (TFH) cell imbalances and IM composition in vivo. Alterations of the IM composition and bacterial translocation occurred in AIH patients compared to nonalcoholic ...

There are long-standing controversies about the transplant indications for alcoholic liver disease (ALD), because of the recognition that ALD is fundamentally self-inflicted. However, it is unclear whether psy...

Chronic liver disease is one of the biggest threats to public health worldwide. Worryingly, the incidence of liver disease is dramatically rising due to the aging of the population and the global epidemics of obesity. Both are major risk factors for chronic liver disease and adverse prognostic factors, causing an increase in mortality rate. It is of great concern that 80–95% of obese people have non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, the major precursor for liver failure and a global health challenge. Currently, the only curative treatment for advanced chronic liver disease is liver transplantation, which is, however, ha...

Drug Metab Pharmacokinet. 2021 Jun 12;42:100410. doi: 10.1016/j.dmpk.2021.100410. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe developed a novel immunodeficient NOG mouse expressing HSVtk mutant clone 30 cDNA under the control of mouse transthyretin gene enhancer/promoter (NOG-TKm30) to acquire fertility in males and high inducibility of liver injury in females. Maximum human albumin levels (approx. 15 mg/mL plasma) in both male and female NOG-TKm30 mice engrafted with human hepatocytes (humanized liver mice) were observed 8-12 weeks after transplantation. Immunohistochemical analyses revealed abundant expression of major human cytoch...

Medicina (Kaunas). 2021 Nov 21;57(11):1279. doi: 10.3390/medicina57111279.ABSTRACTBackground and Objectives: Seroepidemiological studies indicate that parvovirus B19 circulates in all areas of the world, although with some differences. The aim of this study is to analyze the seroprevalence of parvovirus B19 in the Croatian population. Materials and Methods: From 2010 to 2021, 1538 serum samples from different populations were tested for the presence of parvovirus B19 IgM/IgG antibodies. Serological tests were performed using a commercial enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results: IgG antibodies were detected in 986/64.1% ...
