This study aimed to investigate the altered ultrasonographic activity of abdominal muscles during breathing in males with and without nonspecific chronic low back pain (NSCLBP).DesignCross-sectional study.MethodsTwenty males with NSCLBP and 20 males without NSCLBP were recruited. Muscle thickness change was measured by ultrasonography during breathing in the end-inspiration and end-expiration phases for the transverse abdominis (TrA), internal oblique (IO), external oblique (EO), and rectus abdominis (RA) muscles. The data were normalized to the end-inspiration thickness. An independentt test was run to analyze the data at...

Abstract: Endometriosis is a benign condition of the female genital system, characterized by endometrial tissue external to the uterine cavity. Of all cases with endometriosis, the incidence of umbilical endometriosis is only 0.29%. Umbilical endometriosis typical presents with symptoms including cyclical pain, bleeding, and swelling of the nodule. Morphological changes in the epidermis, as in this case, simulating a seborrheic keratosis both clinically and microscopically, can initially mask the underlying endometriosis and prolong the course of treatment. A thorough anamnesis and examination revealing the characteris...

Conclusions We propose a guide for MSK assessment of the pelvis and associated structures that can be used for both clinical and research purposes. This guide is designed for health care providers caring for women with pelvic floor disorders, including physicians, advanced practice providers, and nurses. This guide serves to improve communication among multidisciplinary practitioners to refine MSK assessment and treatment approaches and thereby advance clinical care and research.

Objectives Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) has been implicated in central neurological processes. We hypothesize that greater pain catastrophizing is associated with higher urinary BDNF levels in women with bladder pain syndrome. Methods A secondary analysis of a database of women with urinary urgency was conducted. We identified women who met AUA criteria of bladder pain syndrome. Urinary symptoms, pain catastrophizing, and neuropathic pain were measured using the Female Genitourinary Pain Index, Pain Catastrophizing Scale and painDETECT questionnaires respectively. The relationship of the catastrophiz...

Objective The aim of this study was to describe patient-reported longitudinal outcomes in a multidisciplinary female chronic pelvic pain (CPP) program. Methods We conducted a retrospective cohort study for women cared for in a tertiary, multidisciplinary, female (CPP) program between 2012 and 2017. Patient demographics were collected from electronic medical records. Patients completed the numerical rating scale for pain, Pain Disability Index (PDI), and Patient Global Impression of Improvement scale at each visit. Mixed-effects models were used to assess change in patient responses over time. Results Pati...
