Burning mouth syndrome (BMS) is a chronic intraoral pain defined by the International Headache Society (IHS) as "an intraoral burning or dysaesthetic sensation, recurring daily for more than two hours/day over more than three months, without clinically evident causative lesions" 1. Symptoms are usually located on the tongue, lips and hard palate 2,3, and are often accompanied by dysgeusia and xerostomia 3,4.
