Prevalence of atopic dermatitis in the pediatric population

Silverberg et al1 estimated the global prevalence of atopic dermatitis (AD) in the pediatric population (aged 6 months to less than 18 years) of 18 countries. Criteria used to determine AD were (1) the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC) criteria plus self- or parent-reported diagnosis or (2) the ISAAC criteria only. The 12-month –diagnosed AD prevalence ranged from 2.7% to 20.1% by ISAAC plus self- or parent-reported diagnosis, and it ranged from 13.5% to 41.9% by ISAAC only.
