The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has given the O.K. to Covid-19 vaccine "booster" shots made by Cambridge biotech Moderna Inc. The TJX Cos. Inc., the Framingham-based retail giant behind TJMaxx, Marshalls and other retail chains, will require some of its employees to receive a Covid-19 booster shot, becoming one of the first major employers in Massachusetts to hand down such a mandate. My post yesterday on the lunkhead senator from Wisconsin inspired some thoughts about Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and the disease it causes, called Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome or AIDS. The syndrome got its name before the viral cause was discovered, which is why it's called a syndrome, the word for a collection of symptoms when the cause is unknown or unspecified.
