Eagleville Hospital nurses, technicians approve new contract and avert strike

Nurse and technicians at Eagleville Hospital have avoided a potential strike, reaching terms of a new three-year contract that includes wages and staffing improvements. The 110 staff members at the 305-bed Montgomery County behavioral health and addictions treatment medical center, represented by the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals (PASNAP), had voted earlier this month to authorize a strike citing concerns about what they said w ere unsafe staffing levels. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of problem gambling is almost 4 times higher among addictology consultants, compared to the general population, probably related to addictive comorbidities. The identification of gambling habits concerned a small proportion of the patients included, whether in specialized care or outside. There is significant room for improvement in the identification of problem gambling, in addictology and beyond. It is important to question gambling habits for any reason for addiction consultation and to repeat this identification over time. As the Internet is widely used by addictology consultants, it can repr...

Conclusions: Low-threshold OAT was at least as effective and safe as the standard OAT in terms of treatment retention, the use of illicit opioids, non-fatal overdose, and death. Healthcare utilization increased during the OAT compared to the period before. Lowering the threshold for OAT entrance within proper delivery platforms should be broadly considered to reduce harm and improve healthcare access among patients with opioid dependence.Eur Addict Res

The objective of the current study was to investigate substance use prevalence rates and ages of onset in a community-representative sample of female and male young adults in Switzerland. Methods: Data came from the Zurich Project on the Social Development from Childhood to Adulthood (z-proso). In 2018, participants (N = 1,180, 50.8% females) were ∼20 years old. Lifetime and past-year use of alcohol, tobacco, cannabinoids, stimulants, hallucinogens, opioids, and benzodiazepines were assessed with an extensive substance use questionnaire. Additionally, ages of onsets of the respective substances were estimated by averagi...

Although 21 pancreatic cancer susceptibility loci have been identified in individuals of European ancestry through genome-wide association studies (GWASs), much of the heritability of pancreatic cancer risk remains unidentified. A recessive genetic model could be a powerful tool for identifying additional risk variants. To discover recessively inherited pancreatic cancer risk loci, we performed a re-analysis of the largest pancreatic cancer GWAS, the Pancreatic Cancer Cohort Consortium (PanScan) and the Pancreatic Cancer Case-Control Consortium (PanC4), including 8,769 cases and 7,055 controls of European ancestry. Six sin...

Morphine, the main component of opium, is a commonly used analgesic in clinical practice, but its abuse potential limits its clinical application. Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) in the mesolimbic circuitry play an important role in the rewarding effects of abused drugs. Previous studies have showed that α6β2* (* designated other subunits) nAChRs are mainly distributed in dopaminergic neurons in the midbrain area, which regulates the release of dopamine. So α6β2* nAChRs are regarded as a new target to treat drug abuse. α-Conotoxin TxIB was discovered in our lab, which is the most sele...

CONCLUSION: The studies underlying the conclusions have small samples and are heterogeneous in their methods. However, the results suggest that the use of psychedelics and hallucinogens could be considered in some disorders. More studies are needed to reinforce their evidence as potential new drugs.PMID:34852736 | DOI:10.2174/1568026621666211201145800
