Design of a Biosensor for the Detection of Dengue Virus Using 1D Photonic Crystals

AbstractA biosensor for the detection of dengue virus has been designed using 1D photonic crystal. In the proposed structure [(Si/LiF)6D(LiF/Si)6], D is the defect layer. Refractive index of this defect layer D is a function of the plasma, platelets, and hemoglobin of the blood sample of the patient. The variation of refractive index in blood sample affects the transmittance and shifts the transmission peak. Transfer matrix method (TMM) has been used to evaluate the optical properties such as transmittance, Q-factor, sensitivity, and detection limit of the proposed structure. In this work, the Q-factor, detection limit, and sensitivity of the proposed photonic crystal recorded as 1569, 9.3  × 10−3 RIU, and 203.09  nm/RIU.
