Changes in the prevalence of MetS and its components between 2011 and 2018 in the Roma Population

ConclusionsThe increasing prevalence of hidden hypertension and, consequently, the number of untreated individuals with raised BP (from 29.6% to 43.5%, p = 0.014) among women is quite alarming; therefore, a targeted public health strategy and targeted interventions are desperately needed to prevent further worsening of the current situation.Key messagesAmong Roma women, the prevalence of hidden hypertension and, consequently, of elevated blood pressure increased significantly over the study period.Stopping the increasing trend of MetS would require interventions which focus on the increasing prevalence of central obesity and hypertension in the Roma population.
