Aggravation of hyperthyroidism after heterologous prime-boost immunization with inactivated and adenovirus-vectored SARS-CoV-2 vaccine in a patient with Graves ’ disease
The mRNA-1273 vaccine is effective against SARS-CoV-2 and was granted emergency use authorization by the FDA. Clinical studies, however, cannot provide the controlled response to infection and complex immunological insight that are only possible with preclinical studies. Hamsters are the only model that reliably exhibits severe SARS-CoV-2 disease similar to that in hospitalized patients, making them pertinent for vaccine evaluation. We demonstrate that prime or prime-boost administration of mRNA-1273 in hamsters elicited robust neutralizing antibodies, ameliorated weight loss, suppressed SARS-CoV-2 replication in the airwa...
Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) manifests as a severe and uncontrolled inflammatory response with multiorgan involvement, occurring weeks after SARS-CoV-2 infection. Here, we utilized proteomics, RNA sequencing, autoantibody arrays, and B cell receptor (BCR) repertoire analysis to characterize MIS-C immunopathogenesis and identify factors contributing to severe manifestations and intensive care unit admission. Inflammation markers, humoral immune responses, neutrophil activation, and complement and coagulation pathways were highly enriched in MIS-C patient serum, with a more hyperinflammatory profile ...
CONCLUSIONS Activated neutrophils expressing IL-1β can be targeted by IVIG, supporting its use in both KD and MIS-C to ameliorate inflammation.FUNDING Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute; NIH; American Asthma Foundation; American Heart Association; Novo Nordisk Foundation; NIGMS; American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Foundation.
Someone explain to me why there is such a rush for a booster and what data is backing this up? I understand that antibodies drop in time after vaccination which makes complete sense. So what I learned in med school 1. I get a vaccine 2. My body develops an immune response producing antibodies and memory cells 3. The memory cells go dormant and antibodies gets cleared by the body. 4. Dormant memory cells stop producing much antibodies until it sees the pathogen again 5. Memory cells goes... Read more
A panel of U.S. health advisers has endorsed booster doses of Johnson &Johnson’s single-shot COVID-19 vaccine
Police unions and officers are pushing back by filing lawsuits to block the mandates.Associated Press
The panel recommends that the second J&J dose come at least 2 months after the first shot. It’s not technically a booster, but it’s moving Johnson &Johnson from a one-dose vaccine to a two-dose one, similar to Moderna’s and Pfizer’s vaccines.
