ConclusionsCholecystectomy is associated with mild increased risk of incident CDI, but this effect is not influenced by use of proton pump inhibitors, antibiotics, or hospitalization. Future prospective studies should be conducted to validate these findings and evaluate bile acid changes after a cholecystectomy.
