We report the case of a 4-year-old boy who initially developed a widespread popular–pustular rash 2 weeks after his 12-month measles, mumps, and rubella vaccinations. These resolved with scarring then recurred following his 24-month vaccinations. Multiple skin biopsies were negative for infectious organisms and showed a granulomatous infiltrate with perforation and necrobiosis. The differential diagnosis included perforating granuloma annulare, infection, or rheumatoid nodules. At the age of 4, he developed fever, hepatosplenomegaly, pancytopenia and other laboratory abnormalities, requiring hospitalization. A number...

CONCLUSION: The mumps vaccination rate could be improved by adding the mumps vaccine in the routine vaccination program and educating parents by disseminating correct information on mumps and the mumps vaccine, and by primary care physicians routinely recommending vaccination.PMID:34815119 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2021.11.015

CONCLUSIONS: Existing evidence on the safety and effectiveness of MMR/MMRV vaccines support their use for mass immunisation. Campaigns aimed at global eradication should assess epidemiological and socioeconomic situations of the countries as well as the capacity to achieve high vaccination coverage. More evidence is needed to assess whether the protective effect of MMR/MMRV could wane with time since immunisation.PMID:34806766 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD004407.pub5

CONCLUSION: The Swiss dental healthcare workers participating in this study had a medium level of awareness towards vaccinations. Almost all participants were vaccinated against HBV, but they were particularly hesitant about the seasonal influenza vaccination. As a considerable number of participants was unaware of their immunisation status, more comprehensive information on infectious diseases, vaccination and prevention is essential.PMID:34794273 | DOI:10.4414/SMW.2021.w30036

In this study, we analyzed the influence of different doses of mumps-containing vaccine (MuCV) against mumps using Cox-proportional hazard model. We collected 909 mumps cases of children who were born from 2006 to 2010 and vaccinated with different doses of MuCV in Quzhou during 2006-2018, which were all clinically diagnosed. Kaplan-Meier survival methods and Cox-proportional hazard model were used to estimate the hazard probabilities. Kaplan-Meier curves showed that the cumulative hazard of male and female has no difference; lower hazards were detected among those who were vaccinated with two-dose MuCV, born in 2006, and ...

Now that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorized Pfizer-BioNTech’s vaccine for kids aged 5 to 11, the Biden Administration has signaled that it will rely on a “trusted messenger” to get information to parents and provide access to vaccines once they’re approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: schools. As part of the plan to deliver COVID-19 vaccines to the youngest population yet, schools will again take on a role they’ve assumed during health crises throughout American history: promoting vaccination to keep kids and communities safe from infectious disease. &ld...

Conclusion: A significant proportion of elite athletes preparing for Olympic competition seem to be at risk of mumps infection. In addition, RTI-susceptible and asthmatic athletes exhibit suboptimal pneumococcal antibody responses, highlighting a need for prospective immune screening in athletes to ensure vaccination strategies are effectively delivered.

ConclusionsDuring the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020 there was a decline in all notified infectious diseases compared to the previous years, likely due to massive NPIs adoption, as well as, possibly, to decreased access to care and preventive services that caused difficulties to the surveillance system to detect notifiable infectious diseases. VCRs were still high for most important vaccines while there was a decline for other vaccines as evidence of the impact of the pandemic on vaccination activities.Key messagesNPIs had a deep impact on the reduction of airborne diseases. The decline for non-airborne infections is likely due ...

ConclusionsAfter two years of mandatory vaccination law in Italy, vaccination coverages have reached the 95% threshold only among patients of 24 months of age. Older cohorts still show inadequate vaccination coverages despite the introduction of mandatory vaccination law. Health services at regional level should develop policies and strategies aiming to improve vaccination coverages and to reach herd immunity.Key messagesAfter the introduction on mandatory vaccination, vaccination coverages reached the 95% threshold only among patients of 24 months of age.Health services should develop strategies aiming to improve vaccination coverages.
