Chronic pain is among the leading contributors to years lived with disability.1 One factor contributing to the development of disability among people with chronic pain is pain-related fear.2 As described in the fear avoidance model,3, 4 negative appraisals of pain can lead to pain-related fear and avoidance behavior, resulting in disuse, deconditioning, and disability.3, 4
