Invited Commentary: The Impact of Bariatric Surgery on Breastfeeding

The authors of this paper have presented an important literature search regarding a topic not often discussed in the office of the bariatric surgeon. There is much to unpack about this thought process that bears mentioning. First, it is well known that a vast majority of bariatric patients, particularly in the US, are women. Although the median age in many series is over 40, (i.e. generally towards the end of maternal age), we certainly see patients in their prime childbearing years present for consideration of bariatric surgery.
