Preface

We are pleased to introduce this issue of Critical Care Clinics, focused on acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Although planned before the COVID-19 pandemic, this issue is particularly timely given the world events of the past 18  months. The articles in this issue address several key topics in the field of ARDS with both a clinical and a research focus, as well as define some of the important questions that need to be answered for our understanding of the pathogenesis and treatment of ARDS to advance.
