Genetics: The Diagnostic Frontier in Pediatric Urology

On April 25,1953 the world of science was inexorably changed when the Rosetta Stone of all life – DNA – was discovered.1 DNA consists of words, sentences and entire chapters made up of only four alternating letters corresponding to the 4 nucleic acids in DNA. This language in DNA holds the promise of unraveling mysteries ranging from how we appreciate the beauty of a flower to why certain individuals are likely to develop cancer. In little more than half a human lifetime, the incomprehensible size of this human blueprint along with many of the miraculous mechanisms for its replication and interpretation has been uncovered.
