The Windsor Definition for Hyperemesis Gravidarum: a multistakeholder International Consensus Definition

Nausea and vomiting are common in early pregnancy (NVP); approximately 80% of all pregnant women are affected to some degree.1 When NVP is severe or protracted, the condition is often referred to as hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), affecting up to 3.6% of pregnancies.1 –5 Women with HG may become dehydrated, lose weight or require hospital admission.6,7 After HG, women more often report anxiety, depression and posttraumatic stress disorder, reflecting the detrimental effect of HG on maternal wellbeing and quality of life.
