A few comments on “Association of the collagen score with anastomotic leakage in rectal cancer patients after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy” by Jiang et al

We read with great interest the article by Jiang et  al1 published in Surgery, in which they found the collagen score of the distal doughnut by second harmonic generation imaging and quantitative analysis was significantly associated with anastomotic leak (AL). The study is very well conducted and useful for us to identify high-risk patients of AL. However, although the collagen score of the proximal doughnut showed no difference between the patients with AL and non-AL in the study, I think it is more useful to prevent AL.
