New social care levy shows government priorities are all wrong, says UNISON        

Commenting today (Tuesday) on government plans for a new health and social care levy in England, UNISON general secretary Christina McAnea said:
“General taxation should be the solution for social care, not national insurance hikes. The focus on funding instead of reform is a cart-before-the-horse approach.
“A detailed plan is needed first to mend and future-proof a sector broken by years of neglect. Only then will the cost of making good the damage become clear.
“A care blueprint must outline the government’s vision for a national service that matches NHS principles and values.
“Decent pay for undervalued employees must take centre stage along with a long-term workforce strategy and improved standards of care.”
