Sarcopenic obesity at the crossroad of pathogenesis of cardiometabolic diseases

In the past 30 years, obesity and ectopic fat have increasingly been associated with cardiovascular disease widening the construct of cardiometabolic diseases (CMD), which include dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus, the metabolic syndrome and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) [1]. Only recently, more attention has also been paid to muscle mass and sarcopenia [2].
