CONCLUSIONS: We found that small bowel dilatation is the most important CT profile for identifying PH patients contraindicated for laparoscopic reduction. Despite the retrospective design of this study, these CT profiles are expected to define the scope of laparoscopic reduction in PH patients and to establish indications for the laparoscopic approach.PMID:34691304 | PMC:PMC8512502 | DOI:10.5114/wiitm.2021.103964

This study aimed to analyze the oncologic safety and short-term surgical outcomes of patients who underwent reduced-port laparoscopic distal gastrectomy (RpLDG) for gastric cancer.MethodsConsecutive patients who underwent surgical treatment between January 2016 and May 2018 were included in this study. Of the 833 patients enrolled, 158 underwent RpLDG and were propensity-matched with 158 patients who underwent conventional port laparoscopic distal gastrectomy (CpLDG). The groups were compared in terms of short-term outcomes and disease-free and overall survival rates.ResultsThe RpLDG group had shorter operation times (161....

AbstractBackgroundWe hypothesized that the Endoscopic Surgical Skill Qualification System (ESSQS) can shorten operative time, resulting in a decrease in postoperative morbidity. Here, we aimed to clarify whether ESSQS-qualified surgeons could decrease the incidence of complications.MethodsBetween January 2009 and June 2019, 1042 patients diagnosed with both clinical and pathological Stage  ≤ III gastric cancer and undergoing LG were enrolled. In all LG procedures involving ESSQS-qualified surgeons, these served as the operator or the instructive assistant. The short-term outcomes were retrospectively compa...

AbstractAdvanced minimally invasive techniques, such as robotic surgeries, are applied increasingly frequently around the world and are primarily used to improve the surgical outcomes of laparoscopic gastrectomy (LG). Against that background, we conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the feasibility, safety, and effectiveness of robotic gastrectomy (RG). Studies comparing surgical outcomes between LG and RG patients were retrieved from medical databases, including RCTs and non-RCTs. The primary outcome of this study was overall survival, which was obtained by evaluating the 3-year survival rate and the 5-year survival rate....
