Adding internal medicine perspectives to the management of postoperative pneumonia
According to Tanaka et al, postoperative pneumonia in the acute phase was an independent prognostic factor in patients who underwent esophagectomy.1 Furthermore, advanced age, respiratory disease comorbidity, and extended surgery duration served as risk factors for acute pneumonia in this population. Taking measures for these risk factors, if possible, would improve prognosis in patients who underwent esophagectomy. However, there seems a lack of internal medicine perspective in this study.
