Re: Open Versus Ultrasound Guided Tunneled Central Venous Access in children: A Randomized Controlled Study
We read with interest the published randomized controlled trial by Soundappan et al., comparing open cut-down versus ultrasound (US) guided percutaneous insertion of central venous access devices (CVADs) via the internal jugular vein (IJV) in children.1 We congratulate the authors in recruiting 108 patients in the trial, since conducting RCTs in the setting of pediatrics can b e extremely challenging, as demonstrated by the long recruitment time in this study.
