Key Roles of RGD-Recognizing Integrins During Cardiac Development, on Cardiac Cells, and After Myocardial Infarction

AbstractCardiac cells interact with the extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins through integrin mechanoreceptors that control many cellular events such as cell survival, apoptosis, differentiation, migration, and proliferation. Integrins play a crucial role in cardiac development as well as in cardiac fibrosis and hypertrophy. Integrins recognize oligopeptides present on ECM proteins and are involved in three main types of interaction, namely with collagen, laminin, and the oligopeptide RGD (Arg-Gly-Asp) present on vitronectin and fibronectin proteins. To date, the specific role of integrins recognizing the RGD has not been addressed. In this review, we examine their role during cardiac development, their role on cardiac cells, and their upregulation during pathological processes such as heart fibrosis and hypertrophy. We also examine their role in regenerative and angiogenic processes after myocardial infarction (MI) in the peri-infarct area. Specific targeting of these integrins may be a way of controlling some of these pathological events and thereby improving medical outcomes.

Special interest has been raised on its association with the metabolic profile, potentially interfering with lipid parameters and lipid-lowering therapies. The aim of the present study was to assess the impact of vitamin D on cholesterol levels among patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergoing primary PCI.

Physiol Genomics. 2021 Dec 3. doi: 10.1152/physiolgenomics.00016.2021. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPrevious studies have revealed the diversity of the whole cardiac cellulome but not refined the left ventricle, which was essential for finding therapeutic targets. Here, we characterized single-cell transcriptional profiles of the mouse left ventricular cellular landscape using single-cell RNA sequencing (10×Genomics). Detailed t-Distributed Stochastic Neighbor Embedding (tSNE) analysis revealed the cell types of left ventricle with gene markers. Left ventricular cellulome contained cardiomyocytes highly expressed Tr...

CONCLUSION: Both, Ultimaster and Magmaris revealed relative safety and efficiency at a one-year follow-up in the diabetic population in ACS settings. The observed rates of TLF were low, which combined with a lack of in-stent thrombosis suggests that both investigated devices might be an interesting therapeutic option for diabetics with ACS. Nevertheless, further large randomized clinical trials are needed to confirm fully our results.PMID:34859105 | PMC:PMC8632392 | DOI:10.1155/2021/8636050

Vasc Health Risk Manag. 2021 Nov 23;17:739-769. doi: 10.2147/VHRM.S328096. eCollection 2021.ABSTRACTCardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in both developed and developing countries, affecting millions of individuals each year. Despite the fact that successful therapeutic drugs for the management and treatment of CVDs are available on the market, nutritional fruits appear to offer the greatest benefits to the heart and have been proved to alleviate CVDs. Experimental studies have also demonstrated that nutritional fruits have potential protective effects against CVDs. The ai...

According to different types of diseases, the patients were divided into an acute group (n = 40) and stable group (n = 40). Besi...

We sought to identify the prevalence and determinants of DAPT use ≥1 year post-MI in patients enrolled in TIGRIS. We used multivariable logistic regression to identify determinants of DAPT use at 396 days post-MI (365 days plus a 31day o...

This study aimed to identify crucial microRNAs (miRNAs) and mRNAs in AMI by establishing a miRNA-mRNA network. The microarray datasets GSE31568, GSE148153, and GSE66360 were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. We identified differentially expressed miRNAs (DE-miRNAs) and mRNAs (DE-mRNAs) in AMI samples compared with normal control samples. The consistently changing miRNAs in both GSE31568 and GSE148153 datasets were selected as candidate DE-miRNAs. The interactions between the candidate DE-miRNAs and DE-mRNAs were analyzed, and a miRNA-mRNA network and a protein-protein interaction network were cons...

Conclusion: In our study, CAD patients with HFimpEF achieved a better prognosis compared to those with persistent HFrEF. Patients with CAD meeting the criteria for the universal definition of HFimpEF tended to be younger, presented fewer clinical comorbidities, and had lower left ventricular end diastolic diameter.
