Evaluating and Comparing Emotional Intelligence and Improvement Mindset of Plastic Surgery Residents

Plastic surgeons must extensively collaborate with physicians from multiple surgical and non-surgical specialties. Effectively managing emotions while interacting with colleagues and patients of various backgrounds is important for plastic surgeons and directly impacts patient care. However, plastic surgery residency training is difficult with high resident burnout rates.1-3 It is clear that successful navigation through plastic surgery residency is not only about passing exams, mastering technical skills in the operating room, or planning operations but also requires trainees to gain numerous non-technical, interpersonal skills and behaviors.
