Prevalence, characteristics and preoperative predictors of chronic pain after double-lung transplantation: a prospective cohort study

Over the years, striking changes have transformed anesthesia, leading to new challenges. Because of the improved survival of lung transplant patients, which reaches about 70% at 5 years, 1 their anesthetic management must take into consideration the risk of development of chronic pain and its consequences, notably an impaired quality of life. Pain is a common problem in patients who are candidates for, or have undergone, lung transplantation. Accordingly, nearly half of the patients awaiting lung transplantation had pain 2 and post-transplant pain prevalence has been evaluated in up to 20% to 80% of patients.
