Tuberculosis recurrence over 7-year follow-up period in successfully treated patients in a routine programme setting in China: a prospective longitudinal study

Although the estimated tuberculosis (TB) mortality rate fell by 42% globally between 2000 and 2019, it is still a major public health problem worldwide. (World Health Organization 2020) In 2019, there were an estimated 10 million new TB cases and 1.5 million people died from the disease. (World Health Organization 2020) Despite the reported treatment success rate for new cases reaching over 85% in more than half of the high TB burden countries, for some countries, a significant proportion of people who completed anti-TB treatment have a recurrence of TB.
