Improving frequency of urinary albumin testing in type 2 diabetes in primary care — An analysis of cross-sectional studies in Denmark

In Denmark, as in many western European countries, the majority of individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D) are cared for in general practice. Prevention of acute and chronic complications is the main purpose of the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Landmark studies as the Steno 2 study [1 –3] demonstrated the importance of addressing all risk factors, to ensure multi-organ protection. Therefore, multifactorial interventions, focusing on other factors than lowering of blood glucose, are essential [4]. For every risk factor to be addressed, there is a corresponding necessary clinical or biochemical measure to be recorded.
