Simplification of complex insulin therapy A story of dogma and therapeutic resignation
The combination of rapid-acting plus long-acting insulins has been the cornerstone of therapy of patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and has also become the gold standard of insulin therapy in type 2 diabetes (T2DM). A significant proportion of T2DM patients are overtreated, with potential harms of insulin therapy exceeding its benefits. Treatment simplification aims to decrease the complexity of insulin regimens, including, but not limited to fewer administration times and fewer blood glucose checks.
