Nocardia infection causing non-healing surgical wounds:A case series from Bangladesh

Nocardiae spp. are weakly acid fast, filamentous, branching, Gram positive bacilli (Brown-Elliott et al., 2006; Queipo-Zaragoz á et al., 2004). They are found especially in tropical and subtropical environments and are ubiquitous(Murray et al., 2013; Sharma et al., 2008). There are more than 100 identified species of Nocardia, of which 54 species of Nocardia are pathogenic to humans (Baio et al., 2013; Conville et al., 201 8; Murray et al., 2013). Diagnosis can be done from microscopy by Gram stain and modified Ziehl-Neelsen (MZN) staining as well as from growth.
