OPM, IRS, EBSA, HHS: Requirements Related to Surprise Billing; Part I

Notice of interim final rule from the Office of Personnel Management, Internal Revenue Service, Employee Benefits Security Administration, and Department of Health and Human Services implementing provisions of the No Surprises Act that protect participants, beneficiaries, and enrollees in group health plans and group and individual health insurance coverage from surprise medical bills. These regulations are applicable for plan years beginning on or after January 1, 2022. This notice also includes interim final rules that apply to emergency departments of hospitals and independent freestanding emergency departments, healthcare providers and facilities, and providers of air ambulance services related to the protections against surprise billing. These regulations are applicable January 1, 2022. These regulations are effective on September 13, 2021. Comments are due by September 7, 2021.
