In recent decades, the prevalence of diabetes has been significantly increased among adults, with a global estimated prevalence of 9.3% [1]. With an increasing prevalence of diabetes, especially type 2 diabetes (T2D), healthcare costs for treatment and its associatedcomplications are also expected to increase. Therefore, secondary prevention of T2D complications and in particular cardiovascular (CVD) complications is one of the main therapy targets for T2D [2].
