This study aimed to investigate safety, tolerability, antibody development, and reduction of low-density lipoprotein choleste rol (LDLc) following four subcutaneous immunizations.MethodsThis phase I, single-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study was conducted in a total of 72 healthy subjects with a mean fasting LDLc level at baseline of 117.1  mg/dL (range 77–196 mg/dL). Each cohort enrolled 24 subjects to receive three priming immunizations at weeks 0, 4, and 8 and to receive a single booster immunization at week 60 of either AT04A, AT06A, or placebo. This study aims to systematically review and synthesize the evidence on the safety data from the published COVID-19 vaccine trials. This study followed PRISMA guidelines. We searched three major electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, and Google Scholar) for published studies between Dec 2019 and 2020. Eligible study designs were randomized trials and pre-and post-intervention evaluations. Descriptive findings of included studies were reported stratified by target population, setting, outcomes, and overall results. From PubMed, Embase, WHO database, and Google Scholar screened titles and abstracts, 11 studies were identified...

This study compared approximately 390,000 people who received the Company’s single-shot COVID-19 vaccine versus approximately 1.52 million unvaccinated people matched on age, sex, time, three-digit zip code, and comorbidities and predictors for COVID-19 infection severity. This study is a longitudinal cohort design, using robust propensity matching methods to create a comparator cohort to assess real-world VE. All analyses were performed using the Aetion Evidence Platform, which is a scientifically validated software that is also used by regulators, payers, and health technology assessment bodies to assess the safety,...

CONCLUSION: It seems the same inflammatory process is responsible for arterial and venous involvement in patients with BD, so it should be considered that involvement in one side (venous/arterial) can be a risk factor for the other side (venous/arterial) and early immunosuppressive treatment should always be considered to improve the prognosis.PMID:34544348 | DOI:10.2174/1573397117666210920154400

A 67-year-old African American male presented with a 1-week history of left eye pain with conjunctival erythema, a painful rash on his left forehead, headache, and 2 days of diplopia. Physical exam was notable for conjunctival injection of the left eye, left upper eyelid ptosis, and crusting forehead skin lesions. The patient was unable to maintain gaze medially or laterally; attempts at prolonged gaze resulted in loss of alignment and diplopia. Ophthalmologic exam was otherwise normal. A CT of the head and an MRI brain and orbits revealed no acute intracranial findings.

We examined whether the risk of glaucoma would decrease or increase when patients with DM were exposed to different PM2.5 concentrations. Data were obtained from the National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) of Taiwan and the Air Quality Monitoring Network between 2008 and 2013. This nested case–control study involved 197 DM patients with glaucoma and 788 DM patients without glaucoma. Cases and controls were matched (1:4) by gender, age (±5 years), and index date (±6 months), and their data were entered in a logistic regression model adjusted for gender, age, urbanization level, income level, ...

In this study, we included patients (final n = 14, five dropouts; five females, mean age: 32 years) with visual snow syndrome (VSS) and age- and sex-matched controls (final n = 20, 6 dropouts, 13 females, mean age: 28.2 years). We applied diffusion tensor imaging to examine possible white matter (WM) alterations in patients with VSS.Results: The patient group demonstrated higher (p-corrected
