Conclusion: Findings suggest that CBT-induced GI symptom improvement may be mediated by a constellation of CBT-specific (IBS-SE) and nonspecific (task agreement, treatment expectancy) processes that reciprocally influence each other in complex ways to catalyze, improve, and sustain IBS symptom relief.
