Growth in Federal Research Obligations for Life Sciences Between 1970 and 2020

This NCSES InfoBytes highlights the 50-year trends in federal research obligations for the fields of science and engineering. The InfoBytes gives an overview and also breaks down trend data by broad field, detailed field, and as a percentage of total federal obligations for research in science and engineering. Data are from the Survey of Federal Funds for Research and Development, Volume 69 ( FYs 2019 – 20 ) . The survey is conducted by the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics within the National Science Foundation.
