Gauze: Origin of the Word

We use gauze in all fields of medicine. Yet, what is the origin of this daily used word? Gauze, is a loosely woven cloth used for dressings and swabs. It is a light, open-weave fabric made of cotton when used for surgical dressings and of silk and other fibers when used for dress trimming [1-2].
