Opponensplasty by the Palmaris Longus Tendon to the Rerouted Extensor Pollicis Brevis Transfer With Endoscopic Carpal Tunnel Release in Severe Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

In patients with severe carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), restoring thumb opposition is critical because this function is essential for proper pinching, grasping, and other complex hand movements. Opponensplasty is an effective procedure to preserve thumb function, with several methods reported. Camitz opponensplasty, using the palmaris longus (PL), is an option for patients with severe CTS. Recently, several modified Camitz procedures have been proposed to overcome the shortcomings of the original description.
