Addressing structural racism: Towards an organization-theoretical approach
Since March 2020, much of the public has awoken to the need to combat structural racism. The immediate triggers were the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, the newest victims (at the time) in a long string of fatalities due to police brutality and injustice. But a disproportionate number of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) who fell victim to the ongoing coronavirus infection also played an important role. As the pandemic rages on, disproportionately affecting BIPOC, and the presence of white nationalism in mainstream politics grows, it feels important to continue and expand upon the discussion of structural racism and bias to the field of medicine.
