AbstractCoronary artery bypass grafting improves survival in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy, however, these patients are at high risk for morbidity and mortality. The role of viability testing to guide revascularization in these patients is unclear. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) has not been studied adequately in this population despite being considered a reference standard for infarct imaging. We performed a multicenter retrospective analysis of patients (n  = 154) with severe left ventricular systolic dysfunction [ejection fraction (EF)   50% viability on CMR had a 47% reduct...

Authors: Ge C, He Y Abstract The mortality in nonischaemic dilated cardiomyopathy (NIDCM) patients is still at a high level; sudden death in NIDCM can be caused by ventricular tachycardia. It is necessary to explore the pathogenesis of ventricular arrhythmias (VA) in NIDCM. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified by comparing the gene expression of NIDCM patients with or without VA in the gene expression profile of GSE135055. A total of 228 DEGs were obtained, and 3 genes were screened out to be significantly related to the survival time of NIDCM patients. We established a prediction model on two-gene...

We present a case of recurrent ventricular tachycardia in a patient with dilated cardiomyopathy caused by a novel mutation of LMNA gene. Through electroanatomic mapping, catheter ablation and tissue pathology we provide detailed insights into this highly pathogenic inherited cardiomyopathy.

We present a case of high-grade AV block and septal ventricular tachycardia (VT) requiring orthotopic heart transplantation with post-transplant genetic testing showing LMNA-related dilated cardiomyopathy.

ECG changes in coronary artery disease (CAD) can be in any of the waves or segments. Diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction in the emergency room still relies mostly on the ECG, though other investigations are there to supplement. P wave abnormalities P wave being an atrial event, is not usually involved directly by CAD. But indirectly, there can be evidence of atrial enlargement if there is left ventricular dysfunction. Atrial arrhythmias are observed in atrial infarction. Abnormalities of PR segment PR segment contains the atrial repolarization wave (Ta) though it is not usually evident. PR segment depression can occu...

Abstract Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is described in the medical literature but rarely seen among acutely ill trauma patients. A 44-year-old man with burns to the hands and back after a chemical explosion was transported to an outside facility where he received treatment for presumed acute coronary syndrome after developing ventricular tachycardia and elevated serum troponins after the exposure. His cardiac catheterization was unremarkable, but an echocardiogram revealed severe cardiomyopathy, and he was also in multisystem organ failure. He was transferred to our facility after hospital day 2 for treatme...
