The Use of Computer Aided Three-Dimensional Prototyping to Surgically Assist in Tooth Autotransplantation

Autotransplantation is a surgical technique where a donor tooth belonging to the same individual is re-positioned into a surgically prepared socket or a site of a previous tooth extraction. This procedure is beneficial in patients with teeth affected by agenesis, trauma, significant caries, non-restorable condition or are prognostically poor due to other pathology. Autotransplantation is particularly useful in paediatric patients as properly transplanted teeth have a vital periodontium that allow for continuous growth and functional adaptation leading to preservation of the alveolar ridge.
