Integrated Analysis of Two Probucol Trials for the Secondary Prevention of Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Events: PROSPECTIVE and IMPACT

CONCLUSION: We demonstrated a marginal effect of probucol on cerebrocardiovascular events in Asian patients with CAD, with reasonable safety profiles. A larger study may be needed to support the effect of probucol for cardiovascular prevention.PMID:33867420 | DOI:10.5551/jat.62821

Authors: Rombauts A, Abelenda-Alonso G, Cuervo G, Gudiol C, Carratalà J Abstract INTRODUCTION: Despite adequate antibiotic coverage, community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) remains a leading cause of hospitalization and mortality worldwide. It induces both a local pulmonary and a systemic inflammatory response, particularly significant in severe cases. The intensity of the dysregulated host response varies from patient to patient and has a negative impact on survival and other outcomes. AREAS COVERED: This comprehensive review summarizes the pathophysiological aspects of the inflammatory response in CAP, brie...

This study therefore investigated the impacts of RRCC on air pollution based on detailed household heating data obtained from intensive face-to-face interviews in Shandong province, China. The total contributions and specific contributions of coal, stoves, and coal-stove combinations to air pollution were simulated using the WRF-CAMx-PSAT model. The RRCC for heating had a considerable impact on air pollution, contributing 36.1, 9.1, and 16.1% of atmospheric SO2, NOx, and PM2.5 in winter, respectively. Different coal-stove combinations had different impacts on air pollution and mitigation efficiencies. The combination of bi...

Conclusions: Embolism associated with asymptomatic carotid stenosis shows circadian variation with highest rates 4–6 h before midday. This corresponds with peak circadian incidence of stroke and other vascular complications. These and ASED Study results show that monitoring frequency, duration, and time of day are important in ES detection. Introduction Transcranial Doppler (TCD) detected microembolism in the ipsilateral middle cerebral artery (MCA) may help stratify the risk of stroke and other arterial disease complications in persons with advanced (≥60%) asymptomatic carotid stenosis. If so, this techniqu...

This study investigated if statins would similarly reduce postoperative arrhythmias in patients undergoing THA. METHODS:: We queried a large Medicare and private-payer database from 2005 to 2012 and identified 12,075 patients who were on a statin prior to THA. We then age and sex matched 34,446 non-statin users who underwent THA. Baseline comorbidities and postoperative complications were obtained and assessed via standard descriptive statistics. RESULTS:: The statin users had more preoperative comorbidities including congestive heart failure, valvular heart disease, pulmonary and renal disease, diabetes, hyperte...

Authors: Song YQ, Xu WJ, Lin CL, Wu QM Abstract OBJECTIVE: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the most common arrhythmias affecting the patient's quality of life, and its complications of thromboembolism can lead to serious consequences. AF patients are often in hypercoagulation status that can affect the prognosis. GPIIb/IIIa is a fibrinogen receptor that can bind to the ligands of platelet and cause aggregation. Therefore, GPIIb/IIIa can be treated as a marker of hemagglutination. This work aims to analyze the changes of GPIIb/IIIa after radiofrequency ablation of atrial fibrillation, and to investigate its relat...

Conclusions: The findings suggest that biologically plausible genetic factors may alter susceptibility to PM10-associated QT prolongation in populations protected by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s National Ambient Air Quality Standards. Independent replication and functional characterization are necessary to validate our findings. I truly hope that very soon I do not have to make an appointment at the GP when I suspect signs of a disease, but my GP will send me a message that she spotted something irregular in my latest test results and my digital health data, so I’d better visit. Let me show you in detail, how primary care should be carried out in the future! Digital health should become organic part of primary care in the future I live a fairly healthy life. I use data to improve my lifestyle and to make better decisions through optimizing my sleep pattern, my physical, my cognitive or my emotional abilities; and I had several genetic t...
