Taking the heavy load off Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy

Rare disease require specific therapy, which may include repurposing of existing treatments. While this paradigm has been successfully implemented in oncology, cardiovascular therapies are currently still aimed at large, broadly defined patient groups, e.g. “heart failure with reduced ejection fraction”. In the cardiovascular field, genetically conferred cardiomyopathies have the potential to become exemplars for the development of specific therapies. Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is a rare, genetically conferred cardiomyop athy and one of the most common causes of sudden death and ventricular arrhythmias in young people and athletes.
