The impact of COVID-19 on women surgeons and trainees: The transformation of medical students, surgical residents, and attending surgeons
The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically impacted practicing women surgeons and those receiving surgical education across the world. It has necessitated a significant reorganization of hospitals and postponement of nearly all elective procedures during the times of highest healthcare system burden. Longer-term repercussions have included worse clinical outcomes associated with delays in diagnosis and treatment, as well as impaired outpatient continuation of care.1 All involved in the delivery of surgical care have been deeply affected.
