Omega-3 Fatty Acids Effect on Major Cardiovascular Events in Patients at High Cardiovascular Risk

To the Editor Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of mortality in Asia and hypertriglyceridemia is prevalent in Asian populations. We are particularly interested in the results of the prespecified subgroup analysis in the STRENGTH trial shown in Figure 3 of the article. This analysis revealed a significant reduction in the risk of the primary composite cardiovascular end point of 0.72 (95% CI, 0.54-0.96) among Asians and 0.78 (95% CI, 0.62-0.98) in the Asia region, which raises the possibility that administration of high-dose omega-3 fatty acids has cardiovascular benefits in Asian subgroups.
