Chikungunya (CHIK) is a high-impact arboviral disease, which is emerging worldwide since the early XXIst century. CHIK virus (CHIKV) is an arthrotropic alphavirus transmitted to humans by mosquitoes. Two to twelve days after an infective bite, the CHIKV infection commonly consists of an acute stage with brutal onset of febrile diffuse arthralgia, rash and occasional complications in patients with underlying conditions; in adults, the outcome is frequently followed by long-lasting polyarthralgia and stiffness, mood changes and fatigue for months to years.
