Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young Type 2 (MODY2): Insight from an Extended Family
Maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) is an autosomal dominant form of diabetes, and one of the most common monogenic diabetes in children [1-3] with an estimated prevalence of 1.1:1000, accounting for 1 –5% of diabetes cases in Europeans [1,4]. Hyperglycemia in MODY is attributed to abnormal insulin secretion [1,5-8]. The diagnosis of MODY is established based on onset before 25 years of age, presence of diabetes in at least two consecutive generations, absence of β-cell autoantibodies, and sust ained endogenous insulin secretion [8-12].
