Getting to the core of HIV replication
(University of Texas at Austin, Texas Advanced Computing Center) Mechanism found for how HIV-1 virus imports nucleotides into its core that fuel DNA synthesis, a key step in its replication. Supercomputer molecular dynamics simulations helped test translocation and free energy calculations. Research supported by the NSF-funded XSEDE through TACC Stampede2 and PSC Bridges. HIV-1 capsid research provides potential for new drug targets for therapeutic development such as improved anti-retroviral drugs.
