Analysis of major fatty acids from matched plasma and serum samples reveals highly comparable absolute and relative levels

Fasted blood draw samples of plasma and serum were acquired from 98 participants in the Florey Adelaide Male Ageing Study. Matched plasma and serum samples underwent the same organic solvent extraction, separation and identification by gas liquid chromatography with a flame ionization detector (GLC-FID). Individual FA were analyzed in both absolute ( μg/mL) and relative percentage (%) terms. Investigation of the relationship and differences between plasma and serum were by Pearson Correlation, Bland-Altman analysis and t-test.
