Curly Hair Patches in a Toddler

A 3-year-old boy presented with well-defined patches of tightly curled hair on his scalp, which had been present since he was 20 months old. His medical history was unremarkable and there was no report of consanguinity in the family. Physical examination revealed 2 circumscribed areas with coiled, lighter, and shinier hair located in the left temporal (Figure, A) and interparietal (Figure, B) regions, without changes on the subjacent skin. His nails and teeth were normal and he had no other skin lesions.
